The Southern Cone of America is the southern portion of the American continent whose shape resembles that of a scalene triangle. Its vertex would be Cape Horn, while its sides would run along the coasts of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans up to the points of inflection of the coastlines where the end of the peninsular area of South America would be verified: Arica, in the Pacific, and approximately the limit between the state of Paraná and São Paulo, in the Atlantic. Its northern limit would be the line that joins them. The republics of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay are completely in that zone, while the countries that are cut by the line -Brazil and Paraguay- will be included or not depending on the criterion with which the concept of Southern Cone is used.

MAGDALENA ISLAND
Magdalena Island is a Chilean island located in the Strait of Magellan. Together with the islet Marta they form one of the most important penguin colonies in southern Chile, known as Los Pingüinos Natural Monument.
PUERTO VARAS
Puerto Varas is a Chilean city and commune located in the province of Llanquihue (Los Lagos region). It was created from the German colonization with immigrants who settled on the shores of Lake Llanquihue between 1852 and 1853.
PAINE TOWERS
One of the largest and most important national parks in Chile, and a protected wilderness area. In 2006, it occupied an area of approximately 242,242 ha.
PERITO MORENO GLACIER
This glacier originates in the Southern Patagonian ice field. In its descent, it reaches the southern arm of Lake Argentino, with a front of 5 km in length, emerging over the water with a height of about 60 meters.
CABO DE HORNO NATIONAL PARK
The park covers an area of 63,093 ha. In most of the park there are southern beech forests. In the vicinity of the coasts penguins form breeding colonies. Among the birds that dominate in these lands are albatrosses and fulmars.
